The afterwork for people who want to actually meet someone in Paris.

After living in Taiwan, Morocco, London and Vietnam, craving something more genuine back home in Paris, they decided to build the kind of space they wished existed.

Our story

Making friends as an adult in a big city is genuinely hard.

Paris is full of people and still one of the loneliest cities in the world. As an expat, or even as a local, building a real social life from scratch feels almost impossible. Everyone seems already in their bubble. After work, people go home. Weekends fill up fast with obligations. And somewhere along the way, the easy friend-making of university stops being available.

Melting Plot was created to fix that. We organise casual afterwork events where expats and locals show up, often alone, and leave with real conversations, new faces, and sometimes plans for the following weekend. Not a networking event. Not a language exchange. Just a privatised bar, a welcoming host, and a crowd of curious, open-minded people in their mid-20s to late 30s.

No awkward icebreakers. No badge. No agenda. The venue is privatised so everyone there chose to be there, which already makes it easier. A host is always at the entrance to welcome you. After that, it is entirely up to you.

Because meaningful connections do not happen by chance. They happen when you create the space for them.

Who is it for

You will fit right in if...

✈️

You just moved to Paris and want to build a social life from scratch.

🌀

You have been here for years but struggle to get past surface-level connections.

🏙️

You are a local who wants to meet people outside your usual circle.

💼

You are a young professional (25 to 38) past the university friend-making phase.

🔍

You have googled "how to make friends in Paris" and not found a good answer yet.

🗣️

Your French is not perfect and you want a space where that is completely fine.

How it works

What actually happens at a Melting Plot event

01

Show up

Alone is expected, not awkward. The host is at the entrance to greet you, scan your QR code, and point you in the right direction.

02

No structured programme

Some editions have a light optional icebreaker, but most evenings it is just good energy, a privatised space, and a crowd of people who want to meet someone too.

03

Talk to strangers

Easier than usual here, because everyone came for the same reason. The venue is privatised so there are no bystanders, only people who chose to be there.

04

Stay as long as you want

Events run for 3 hours or more. Some people leave after one drink. Others end up closing the bar. No agenda, no end whistle.

💬

Real conversations

No small talk scripts. The conditions are set for conversations that go somewhere — past job titles and where you are from.

🌍

Mixed crowd

Expats, locals, internationals. If you are curious and open-minded, you are exactly who this is for.

🙌

No pressure

Show up alone. Leave with plans for next week. Or do not. Everything in between is entirely up to you.

FAQ

Questions you probably have

Do I need to speak French?
Not at all. Melting Plot is English-speaking, but there is no level required. The point is human connection, not language performance. The crowd is always mixed — expats and locals together.
Can I come alone?
Yes, and most people do. A host will be there from the start to welcome you. Coming alone is actually the best way to meet people — you are more open, and so is everyone else.
Who usually comes?
Mostly young professionals in their mid-20s to late 30s. A mix of expats and curious locals. People who are sociable but do not have a big social circle in the city yet.
What if I am not an expat?
You are still welcome. Many people find us by searching for expat events, but Melting Plot is for anyone who wants to meet people outside their usual bubble.
How is it different from networking events?
There is no pitch, no badge, no agenda. The venue is privatised. The hosts make sure no one is left alone. It is closer to a good relaxed evening than a professional event.
What cities are you in?
Currently active in Paris, with events launching soon in Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, and Melbourne.
